Semi Batista is an all-around character introduced in 2022. She is a student at Shadow High that focuses in Film.
Character Description
From her small town to the halls of Shadow High, Demi Batista has gone to great lengths to make her filmmaking dreams come true. With the encouragement of her cinema-loving dad, Demi entered a short film into the competition's New Voices category and took home 2nd place! A first for a teenager.
The hardest part about being at Shadow High has been the distance from home. Family is so important to her and thankfully they've always been so supportive of her creative path. Afterall, it was her dad that introduced her to the TIFF competition and the 1931 "Dracula" - a movie that continues to inspire her own film (and fashion) aesthetic. Since her arrival at Shadow High, she's had a difficult time opening up to people - but once she does, she's all in. For Demi, real friends are the family you get to pick, and she'd move mountains to make sure they know it.
Looks
Physical Appearance[]
Demi has two extra long multicolored ponytails of assorted streaks of purple, dark orchid, and indigo with widows peak trimmed bangs, and streaks of jet black on both, pointy straight purple eyebrows and long white eyelashes. She also draws on heavy black bat winged graphic eyeliner over her light Prussian blue eyes and her fingernails are a different shade of purple with diamonds embedded on each one.
Outfit[]
Demi wears a black brocade short dress with purple brocade swirl patterns on it, as well as being adorned with a vintage inspired white blouse and molded “SH” gothic belt buckle. Over the dress, she’s modeling a white neck ruffle and a black cape with oil slick filigree pattern lining underneath in a rainbow of colors, most of them being iridescent purple and silver. Her outfit comes with oil slick black tall boots with ruffle chiffon trim, dangling safety pin themed earrings and various metallic rings, plus black bat hair bows with “S” and “H” on them styling her two ponytails.
For her alternative outfit, she wears a gray top with a purple “Sparkle” logo on it that has a dark orchid outline and two 40s Disney characters with dark orchid face paint on each of them adorned with a black leather jacket with silver spikes. She adorns these with a white and black buttoned skirt with ruffles resembling bat wings. For footwear, she wears dark gray high heels in the same shade as her shirt with faint silver spikes on them.
Personality
She is so far shown to be competitive and likes to act rapidly, as shown in the “Costume Ball special. She also is very straightforward, and tends to be blunt towards those that she finds annoying, such as the Storm Twins.
Relationships
Family[]

Etymology
Demi is a female name with Greek and Latin roots meaning “half”. It was originally a nickname of Demetria, the feminine form of the masculine name Demetrius, which is itself the Latin and English spelling of the Greek name, Demetrios.
Batista is a Spanish or Italian surname. In Sicily, it is derived from "Baptist" in devotion to St. John the Baptist. It is based off the last name Bautista, but made to refer to bats.
Trivia
- She is the second doll to have white eyelashes, the first being Delilah.
- In the 'Costume Ball!' special, before the girls had their costumes design, Demi's eyelashes are black before she wore her Costume Ball outfit. This could mean that Demi's white eyelashes are fake or she's wearing white mascara.
- Her doll is exclusive to Walmart.
- Her dad is the one that introduced her to the TIFF competition and the 1931 classic "Dracula" movie that continues to inspire her own film and fashion aesthetic.
- Her quote on the Shadow High website is a duplicated catchphrase of Zooey's "The future starts now" for unknown reasons.
- Despite her love for vampires, she is never seen wearing any fangs.
- In the animated series, her alternate outfit’s shirt has the logo “Sparkle” on it, only being covered up with her jacket, making it resemble the word “Dark”. This is likely a reference to her overall macabre style and darker purple color palette,
