Project Malibu is the fifty-ninth episode released for the animated series Rainbow High, and the eighth episode of Season 4.
Official Description
The designers think they’re here for some fun in the sun, but Project Rainbow is only getting started! For this round, they’re using the beautiful blue ocean to inspire an amazing runway look. While this week's leaders Monique and Michelle are ready to work, it seems like some of our besties are struggling to think of new ideas. Can they beat their creative block before it’s time to hit the runway??
Summary
This week on Project Rainbow, Team Rainbow High and Team Shadow High are at Malibu for their next challenge. Maria arrives and spins the color wheel, assigning the teams to create garments inspired by the ocean. Monique and Michelle are this week’s leaders and select a sand dollar and starfish respectively as inspiration for their outfits.
Team Rainbow High works on their blue jumpsuit while Victoria struggles with creativity block. Meanwhile, Shadow High creates a short white dress. At the midfield check-in, Maria commends the bold decision to make a suit, but notes that it looks “off the rack” and reminds Team Rainbow High to create a garment for the runway, not work. She notices Victoria feeling down and advises her to step outside of the box and look for new angles to overcome her creative block. Victoria takes Maria’s advice to heart and is immediately inspired by the starfish to fix the team’s outfit. Shadow High continues to work on their dress until Rexx suggests adding a long train at the last minute. Karla agrees with this idea, but admits in the confessional that she actually thinks it would be a better idea to add hand-beaded embellishments. However, since that is far more work than adding a train, Karla decides to let Rexx do the work on his own idea since she is too tired to try and suggest working on her own.
At the end of the challenge, Maria presents Finn Rosado as this week’s guest judge. The teams model their outfits on the runway. Unfortunately, a fabric of Team Shadow High’s train rips off during the walk. In the end, the judges select Victoria as the winner. Due to his idea of adding a train, Rexx would normally be eliminated, but he still has immunity from the last challenge. As a result, Karla is removed instead for agreeing to an idea that she didn’t really like all that much instead of powering through her exhaustion and using her own idea that could’ve saved the dress. Project Rainbow resumes next time.
Trivia
Milestones[]
- Lilac Lane is used as a model for this challenge for the first time.
- Finn Rosado guest stars as a judge in this episode.
Errors[]
- Michelle was chosen team leader in this episode, when she was supposed to have immunity in this episode.
Other[]
- Shadow High loses the challenge because of a wardrobe malfunction where their dress’ long trail gets caught on the runway and is ripped off. While the trail being Rexx’s idea would normally mean that he would be out, he still had immunity from the last episode to keep him safe. As a result, Karla is sent home instead due to approving of an idea she didn’t really believe in because she wasn’t willing to power through her own exhaustion and put in the work for her own idea of hand-beaded embellishments.
- When Ainsley says "Sand dollars are fetch!", it is a reference to the 2004 movie, Mean Girls. "Fetch" is a slang term Gretchen Wieners often uses and tries to 'make it happen,' hoping it becomes a new it-word. The word's actual meaning is supposed to be 'nice', 'fresh', 'desirable,' or 'cool'. The word is popular due to Regina George saying "Gretchen, stop trying to make 'fetch' happen, it's NOT going to happen!".
