Rainbow High Special Edition dolls are Rainbow High dolls usually of better quality than the main Rainbow High dolls, therefore more valuable in quality and price. They tend to get rarer over time, especially when they are eventually discontinued and unable to be purchased again. On their boxes, they are not labeled as a part of any series, and instead display a symbol of what they're themed after.

The first Rainbow High special edition doll was Kia Hart who cost $39.99 USD at her first release, themed around love and Valentine's Day and released in January 2021.

The second Rainbow High special edition dolls were Laurel De'Vious and Holly De'Vious. They both come in a 2-pack that cost $49.99 USD at their first release. They are twins and got released in June 2021.

The third Rainbow High special edition doll is Amaya Raine, being released as a 24-inch doll with a new outfit. She was priced at $99.99 USD. This is her third doll, making her the character with the most merchandise at the time of her release.

The fourth official Special Edition dolls are the Sunny and Luna Madison 2-Pack release. They were released on Amazon on June 27th, 2023, for official purchasing, priced at 50.00 USD.

Vanessa Tempo, Lyric Lucas and Carmen Major are identified as Special Edition, but have their own designated page as Rockstars. They cost $49.99 USD at their first release in October 2021, and themed after rock music.

Brianna Dulce, Marisa Golding and Robin Sterling are identified as Special Edition, but have their own designated page as Slumber Party. They cost $49.99 USD, $36.99 USD at some places, at their first release in October 2021. They are themed after slumber parties.

The Rainbow High Costume Ball and Shadow High Costume Ball dolls are also a part of the Special Edition collection. They are limited to Walmart and each have their own designated pages.

January 1st, 2021: Official stock photos of Kia Hart leak.
January 1st, 2021: Kia Hart is released officially.
June 2021: Blurry pictures of the De'Vious twins are leaked.

Trivia

Most of the clothes worn by the dolls are inspired by real-life brands.
- Kia Hart's second outfit sweater is a reference to Mariah Carey’s heartbreaker.
- The prints on the twins' dress are inspired by the Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse graffiti collection.
  - The twins' bags are inspired by Balenciaga hourglass initial bags.
  - The twins' shoes are inspired by Moschino's gold logo high heels.
  - Their 2nd pair of shoes are inspired by Chanel's split logo heels.
In early prototypes of Kia, it showed her second outfit as not being as love-themed as her final release. This could mean she was intended to be a mainline doll, though Michael has not confirmed this, so take it with a grain of salt.
