Shanelle Onyx is an all-around character introduced in 2022. She is a student at Shadow High that focuses in Couture Fashion Design.
Character Description
After winning every tween pageant in her home state, Shanelle realized her passion wasn't just receiving incredible amounts of attention for her perfect poise and killer smile — she was obsessed with fashion and needed to study under the best minds in the industry. Shadow High was her calling. Shanelle is THE rising queen of Shadow High. Shanelle's talent in couture fashion design already sets her apart from her classmates as it all comes so easy to her. But despite her strong personality, she has tons of friends that are more than willing to follow Shanelle wherever she may go because she's an incredibly fun and loyal person.

Physical Appearance[]
Shanelle is a teenage girl with a medium build and onyx black skin. She has straight onyx black hair with silver streaks styled into a high ponytail, with baby hairs peeking out. A large black bow with a white gem in the middle tops her ponytail. Her eyes are light purple and she wears white and onyx black eyeliner, a subtle red blush, and dark purple colored glossy lipstick. She wears a cuff bracelet on her left wrist
Outfit[]
For her first outfit she wears an onyx black tutu-like dress with an onyx black belt that says "SH" with clear straps. The skirt part of the dress is multi layered and goes in a gradient from top onyx black to white. She wears onyx black lace socks and onyx black ribbon strap heels with onyx black soles and black fur trim, along with huge teardrop-cut onyx gemstone earrings, a white gemstone bracelet and a big onyx black bow with a white gemstone in the middle.
Shanelle’s second outfit consists of an onyx black leather top with multiple gemstone studs, and on top of that she wears an onyx black leather jacket with onyx black ruffle sleeves. Her skirt is an onyx black and white pencil skirt with a leather trim and a houndstooth pattern and silver studs, and she also wears strappy onyx black heels with gemstones on them.
Personality
She appears to be sassy and a mean person, but at the same time, actually cares about her friends and loves designing high fashion and is always there to dress to impress. She is also shown to be helpful to others, as shown how she helps Meline by fixing a loose thread on her dress.
She becomes a much more humble person near the end of the fourth season, showing full support towards Rainbow High students and even starting a close friendship with Skyler, even after she wins the Project Rainbow, stating how proud she is of her and ending it with an initiative hug.
Etymology
Shanelle[]
Shanelle, more properly spelt as Chanel, is a feminine French name that is associated with water. In this instance, it is used as a reference to the famous clothing and fashion brand Chanel.
Onyx[]
Onyx is a famous black mineral that is a specialized form of quartz, with it being best known for its black color.
Relationships
Friends[]
Natasha Zima[]
Natasha seems to be nice to Shanelle, as seen when she offers her things, but Shanelle never really says much to her despite her kindness, most likely because Natasha does these things often at the worst times. Nonetheless, they bond more throughout the series and still care about each other.
Luna Madison[]
The two are friends, but are shown to argue a lot over the course of Luna’s film about who is the star of the film. They eventually make amends with Luna apologizing and them working out their differences, significantly strengthening their friendship.
Nicole Steel[]
The two are shown to be around each other often, but they don’t interact much outside of Nicole’s teasing and Shanelle’s annoyance with it. They’re often shown to be hanging out together, and are implied to be close friends,
Ash Silverstone[]
Shanelle and Ash are likely friends, often seen together, but Shanelle is shown to be annoyed with Ash rather easily, and Ash is shown to admire Shanelle’s work.
Rexx McQueen[]
Rexx and Shanelle have a rather sibling-like relationship, with Rexx often being supportive of Shanelle’s work and Shanelle appreciating that in response.
Skyler Bradshaw[]
Shanelle is teamed up with Skyler near the end of Project Rainbow, and the two instantly bond over their love of fashion. They become close friends, with Shanelle showing true sympathy about Skyler’s presumed ruined fashions, and is immediately impressed by her talent in creating something new from the situation. When Skyler wins, she is extremely proud of her and proudly calls her a friend, with her congratulating her and them hugging and complimenting each other.

Dia Mante[]
At first, when Dia signs up as a team leader, Shanelle seems to be neutral about it. When Dia starts the team process, Shanelle looks upset with it, making frowns every time Dia speaks, and at the end when it's time to vote, Shanelle votes against Dia to remove her from the team.
Timeline
- February 27th, 2022: She was teased on Shadow High's official Instagram, and is the first one to be officially revealed.
- March 16th, 2022: Shanelle along with the rest of the Shadow High Series 1 dolls were officially revealed.
- April 15th, 2022: Shanelle debuts in the episode "Welcome to Shadow High" having speaking lines, along with Natasha, Nicole, and Ash.
- April 25th, 2022: Her doll is officially released to purchase, along with the rest of the Shadow High Series 1 dolls.
Trivia
- She is one of the few characters with a surname that exactly matches up with her theme color.
- In "Welcome to Shadow High", it is revealed that she hates osmosis water and canned pineapple.
- Like Natasha, her doll came with one bracelet and also wears one in her artwork, however in the animated series she has 2 bracelets, on each arm. She's one of the few characters to have accessories that the doll didn't include; like a necklace, bracelets or a ring.
- She is the runner up for Project Rainbow.
